Thanks to Leon who forwarded to a mailing list I’m on, some info on a new flickr toy.

If you add a note onto a picture, and name the description either "ho ho ho hat" or "ho ho ho beard", you get a xmas hat or Santa beard overlayed inside the note, to be moved on your flickr photo.

While browsing through some Konfabulator Widgets, I saw several “local traffic cam” widgets, and thought it might be nice to see some South-African ones there…

I set out to find some local webcams, and found some through Vodacom‘s Vodacom4me service…

I made a quick auto-fetch script for the pics, and they’re available here, or you can click on the individual links here:

• Blouberg strand (beach cam)
• Century City (traffic cam)
• Muizenburg Beach
• Table Mountain bottom station
• Table Mountain top station

They get updated every 5 minutes, so please don’t refresh all the time.
Also, if you’re going to link to the images, please link to this entry, and not the images directly (if you would be so kind…).

To use the Vodacom4me service, you need to be a Vodacom subscriber. Register and login.
Then click on “Services“, then on “CAMInfo“. There are about 30 or so cameras country-wide, I only high-lighted the Cape Town ones. There are traffic cams, tourism cams and beach cams. Go and have a look for yourself. Click to go to www.vodacom4me.co.za

This is a picture I took this morning on the way to work at about 7:45. From just outside of the Cape Town CBD.

Yes, it is a bit skew, but to get a semi-good-looking picture, I had to take the flash off on my camera, which increases the motion-blur effect if you don’t keep absolutely still, so I had to rest the camera on the car’s roof. I’m still finding my feet with this whole photography thing.

Pic taken with my new Canon Ixus 50. Almost finished writing my impressions on it, and will upload my views on it later this week. Check back.
